چکیده

This paper presents a wireless acquisition module (WAM). This allows the monitoring of heavy loads influence on vertebral column’s behaviour. Each module makes the electromyography (EMG), to measure the electric potentials on the iliocostalis and longissimus thoracis muscles, and use a dual-axis accelerometer to get the movements of the body, in order to obtain the complete behaviour of the vertebral column. The solution chosen to transmit the body’s measured signals for further processing, is a wireless link working in the 433 MHz ISM band. The acquired information is transmitted with a maximum rate of 40 kbps, a resolution of 9.8 μV, and accommodates two analog channels. An analog channel with differential input connected to the electrodes, is used to measure the EMG signal, while the remained channel is used in the patient’s movements measurements. The dimensions of the proposed acquisition system are about 7×5×2 cm, and will help to understand the influence of heavy loads as a risk factors in the vertebral column, such as the scoliosis and lordosis.

A RF Transceiver for Wireless Monitoring Systems of the Vertebral Column Behaviour

This paper presents a radio-frequency (RF) transceiver designed, using a standard 0.18 μm CMOS process, for operation in the 2.4 GHz ISM band. The receiver has a sensivity of -64 dBm and consumes 3.5 mW from a 1.5 V supply. The RF transmitter delivers an output power of +11 dBm (15 mW) with a power consumption of 45 mW. These features make the RF transceiver suitable to be integrated in microsy...

Evaluation of H-reflex recruitment curve after application of TENS on the desensitised skin of vertebral column

Electrical stimulation of neuromuscular system has been used in a variety of research and therapeutic applications. Although tri-polar transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TENS) is commonly used to change motoneuron excitabi1ity, but the effect of TENS on synaptic activities through dorsal column stimulation or cutaneous pathways is unknown. So, the aim of this research study was to determine...

A Wireless Electronic Esophageal Stethoscope for Continuous Monitoring of Cardiovascular and Respiratory Systems during Anaesthesia

Background: The basic requirements for monitoring anesthetized patients during surgery are assessing cardiac and respiratory function. Esophageal stethoscopes have been developed for this purpose, but these devices may not provide clear heart and lung sound due to existence of various noises in operating rooms. In addition, the stethoscope is not applicable for continues monitoring, and it is u...

Soil-Structure Interaction of Buried Pipes Under Cyclic Loading Conditions

The safety of lifelines, as the most important urban facilities, under different conditions highly depends on the safe design and performance of these buried structures. This cannot be achieved unless their actual behaviors are well understood and considered at the designing stage. A new physical model was developed in Amirkabir University of Technology to study the behavior of buried pipes und...
